There was one little error in Jason Sandford’s “Into the Depths of Illuminated Seas”. It doesn’t alter the story, but to those like me that really know antique photography it jars slightly. Daguerreotype’s, the type of photograph referred to in the story, are images on metal plates, either silver clad or silver plated. They can’t break, resulting in “shards”. Due to the extreme delicacy of the image, daguerreotypes are sealed in a case with a cover glass. This cover glass can break but its shards don’t contain portions of the image.

I was a hardcore Escapepod fan till Steve Eley left, and though have found a number of other Sci-fi podcasts, none really seemed to either measure up or fit the bill for my tastes. This StarshipSofa really is ‘da lick!’ it is a four course meal of podcasting fulfilment which goes way beyond anything I expected and could have hoped for. The truly stupendous bonus of just having found the site is the 200+ episodes I have the joy of listening to at my leisure. What cache of audio content to stumble upon!

Robert Sheckley was one of the greatest science fiction writers ever and so underrated!

During this time of woe I needed something to help with the ungodly stress and, as always, I turned to books.

Climbing into a good book takes you away from everyday problems and the unresolvable hassles that plague us all. And the farther away the book can take me the better, so I usually like to read Science Fiction and Fantasy books more than anything else, although Mysteries and Westerns take up a lot of space on my shelves too.

Check out EscapePod & Redstone for ideas on presentation, though I disagree with both site’s choice of PDF as one of the formats. PDF is NOT and ebook format and is rarely readable on anything other than a print out or desktop monitor.

Check out MobileRead ( http://www.mobileread.com/ ) for a lot of good info on creating and distributing ebooks. There’s excellent support for Calibre and Sigil, two excellent free tools for ebook production, at MobileRead along with discussions of other production software, reading apps, and devices.

I also loved his piece on Star Wars, really reminded me how much I liked it!

while I am in no way opposed to the idea, I personally would not be likely to read it. The audio version of the sofa is valuable to me because of the way I use it – typically at work, which for me is often solitary and conducive to podcast listening. In other circumstances, the emagazine would have enough competition for my attention that it would rarely be read by me, and if there are a lot of other people who use the Sofa similarly, I’d hate to have the good people there put the labor into making the emagazine. But if a lot of people do want it, then that would be great.

For some reason, I can reread the Foundation trilogy over and over and be thoroughly comforted. I just listened to the BBC radio adaptation from the 70s and will add that to the medicine cabinet for next low period.
