Coming Up
Main Fiction: Scales Justice by Ann Littlewood
Narrator: Kristi Petersen Schoonover
This was such a great story! She made the snakes sound lovely and the women sound – slithery!
It was also interesting to hear a crime (or genre for that matter) story where pretty much every character (except for the deceased) was female. For a short story, the characters’ personalities were well drawn (Kristi’s narration was great) and the author played with the reader’s sympathies (and antipathies) throughout.
I loved this story too. The setting outside of the usual locations for crime stories made it really interesting and the detail on the keeping of snakes was just enough to keep the story moving without feeling like an info dump.
Gonzalo makes a good point about the gender of the protagonists. It’s all too easy to get into accepting the male majority bias in a lot of stories.
