So, now that we have this new fancy-schmancy forum, and new members can actually join, it seems that the Introduce Yourself thread has disapppeared.

I’m an old member and some of you may know me better as a relatively frequent narrator on the good ship. But I enjoy hearing from the new members – where you live, how you found the podcast and the forum, what you like to read and basically anything else you’d like to throw out there.

So, go to it!

Hi All,
Am a new member to the forum but have been enjoying the StarshipSofa since the middle of 2008.
I stumbled upon it whilst looking for SF-writing themed podcasts and have been hooked ever since.

A business analyst by day I spend a lot of time writing dry technical documents and try to offset this in my spare time by writing fiction.
(That is when I am not a climbing frame for my 3 small children!)

I grew up on silver age comics, star wars and tolkien. Currently am a fan of Peter F Hamilton, Ian M. banks, Neal Asher, Richard Morgan and China Mieville amongst others.

I also enjoy fantasy (with or without the dragons!) but can’t think of a particular author I would seek out.

Am based in St Albans, UK – and I guess thats it for a thumbnail sketch of me.

Pleasure to meet you all!

Paul.

Been here a while. Don’t post as often as I should. It’s a great place that’s full of great people.

James.

Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time like tears in rain.

Hey there! I was wondering what happened to this thread. It seems like there are a lot of new-ish people around here that probably popped up while I was distracted by my newborn. Tell us who you are!

Hello everyone, I’m Mark, I’m very pleased to meet you all. I found your site and forums through fellow Chicago author Lawrence Santoro, who recommended it. I’m a writer and one of the editors of US-based Silverthought Press, and I’m always looking for fresh sci-fi recommendations and especially podcasts for my daily commute.

My personal sci-fi/speculative fiction preferences tend toward work that grapples with a nuanced understanding of people and sociology, but I do read a wide variety of fiction. I was born in 1978, which puts me at about ten years old in the twilight of the Space Age, so you can imagine my fondness for the stars and for spacefaring fiction.

Hi Mark, welcome aboard!

I was born in ’78 too and I know how you feel about the twilight of the Space Age, I thought I’d get to watch humans land on Mars, instead we got to watch the shuttle crash. :|

Hi everyone! My name is Julie and I have been a fan of the sofa since 2008. I found it because it was recommended on EscapePod. StarShipSofa quickly became my favorite podcast. I was born in rural Montana (in the US) in 1975 and the bookmobile was my savior. I now live in the Seattle area and am a cardiac nurse in a very busy hospital. I get to see technology in health care and long for the Star Trek style scanners and bloodless surgery. I have been reading sci-fi as long as I can remember and have repeatedly returned to it. I love sci-fi because it imagines a future for humanity. It lets us celebrate our intellegence by imagining the things we can make, invent and achieve. I also love the SSS forum. There are alot of intelligent and thoughtful people here. Nice to meet you all!

Well seeing as we’re doing hellos, ‘Hello!’

My name is Gav and I am from the frozen north. I don’t recall how I found the sofa but it’s been a favourite of mine for a while now. You guys have introduced me to a lot.

I am also probably one of the few techies who can cite pest (rabbit) control as something he’s learned managing the company network.

My turn I guess. I hail from the north of England not far from Tony, living near Newcastle, but speak with an even harder to understand accent than our esteemed host.
I’ve been listening to the sofa all the way back from the early episodes when Neil Gaiman posted a link on his blog about two strange geordies talking about him. Been hooked ever since.

Hi Julie! Pleased to meet you. My brother has made Missoula, MT his home since college (a transplant from Wisconsin). It’s a great group here and it’s nice to have another girl around! :-)

Hello Gav! Welcome! The frozen north, as in the north pole?

Hey Darren! You aren’t new! But I suppose it’s been so long since this thread went current, I guess you’re allowed…
