I can’t say I’m at all tempted to pick up Hominids on the strength of the review. A quick trawl on the web suggests that some think it the “worst Hugo winner of the decade”. The other nominees for 2003 were:
David Brin – Kiln People (also known as Kil’n People)
Michael Swanwick – Bones of the Earth
China Miéville – The Scar
Kim Stanley Robinson – The Years of Rice and Salt
Four authors whose work I respect, although I have to admit I haven’t read any of these four. If I were to pick one up right now it would be The Scar, as I really enjoyed Perdido Street Station. Any other recommendations?
