I want to thank everyone who stopped by to have a listen to the first Tales to Terrify show last week. I’m told it did very well. I just put the tops and tails on this Fridays show–we’re kicking off a review segment from Andy Remic and this week’s story comes from Joe R. Lansdale. Since we don’t yet have a forum over there, I hope that those of you who listened to TtT might want to share your thoughts here about what we’re doing and how we can improve. |

Don’t change a thing Larry, just keep ‘em coming! I created a forum on here for StarShipSofa’s scary little sister, and the comments are open on that site as well if you want to post over there instead: http://talestoterrify.com/tales-to-terrify-no-1-martin-mundt/ |

Really enjoyed the story (and the reading). The set-up was more horrifying in a depressing way, rather than out and out scary, but, like all good stories, the intention was to make you think… Thanks to Larry for topping and tailing – I look forward to all the other segments next time. |

It was a very good story – more disturbing than scary, but that’s a good thing You’re off to a cracking start, Larry, and I am looking forward to see where you go from here. |

Thanks to everyone who stopped by during the first week of TALES TO TERRIFY. On Friday, Jan. 20, our second show will be ‘cast, this time featuring Joe R. Lansdale’s GOD OF THE RZAZOR. I love this story. Reading it a couple decades ago was one of the defining moments of my writing life. Tune in to see how that worked. Reading it a few days ago for TtT, was great fun. And thanks, Joe, for letting us use it. Also featured in this Friday’s offering, “Horror, Anarchy and Doom,” the first of Andy Remic’s monthly commentaries on horror and dark fantasy. For you Martin Mundt fans, Marty’s story, CHAIR, will be archived and available for listening. So there. If you’ve become one of our Children of the Night, I’ll see you again at midnight tonight. If not… I look forward to your first visit to the fireplace… For contact, click on the EMAIL bar at the top or write to: talestoterrify@gmail.com Pleasant dreams.

Damn you Larry! I listened to the first episode, thought that it was nice, but not something I wanted to listen to every week – horror’s not really my bag, and then you go promising Joe R. to follow up. So that’s another episode I have to listen to. Before I know it you’ll have sucked me in and I’ll never escape. |

Haha… I think you’ve just exposed Larry’s cunning plan I don’t read as much horror as I used to, but I am keen to see what comes out of the Andy Remic review section |

Hi Larry. Suggestions since you asked for it. Maybe add some short shorts like the sofa. Barnes and noble had all those 100 little tales of terror/vampire/fright etc books they put out in the 90s you could use as reference. “Bar talk” by Lansdale is a Good Creepy little page and a half story. Do some longer work serialized. Do author shows where you interview the author or discuss his work and then do a short story. Maybe do a 100 or 50 or 25 best horror books with each episode discussing one of the books. Try and do the HWA/Bram Stoker show and do what stories you can leading up to it. Most people just won’t get to hear the stories nominated and it would be great for all. If that is too daunting(and it kinda sounds like it could be) See if you can do the winning story with the author being interview or profiled(I kinda think that would be very flattering to them(as long as the last name isn’t King or Straub etc) See if you can get Ed Bryant to discuss something/anything with you(Hope hes still doing ok) That guy was like the Patron Saint of Horror back it the 80′s heyday. See if you can get Harlan Ellison to come on and Bitch about something LOL, hes Great at that etc.(just piss him off someway, shouldn’t be hard. and he will book a ticket to be a guest on your show that afternoon =) Lots of Great writing, expecially from the mid 80′s has been forgotten. see about adding a mix of those stories with the new stars. I just listened to Tales from the Pale Sarah Lanagan Story “Is this Seat Taken” I can tell if it wasn’t a Dramatized version that it must have been one Knockout of a Story. Not that it was done badly, but once things are cut out it can really ruin a Great Story.(which it did) Ok now Go and Tear our Souls Apart! |
