As if the premise of the story, the 11th Day weren’t chilling enough, the conclusion was truly horrific. One of the best stories so far, in my opinion.
11th day was really freaky! I was just waiting for Rod Serling to walk out an let me know how we all slipped into one of the dark corners of the Twilight Zone. Fowler shows us that sometimes the most horrifying ideas are not so distant or strange. They are frighteningly familiar.
I will say, this story made me a fan of Christopher Fowler. Since we posted it, I’ve burned through three of the Bryant and May novels and cannot get enough of them! Would that they were turned into a series of mini-series. If they would settle into one, nicely mature age, how about John Hurt and Michael Gambone. Anyone?
Wow, this one left me with my mouth hanging open and feeling violated. I was picturing some sort of change outside the elevator, like a zombie apocalypse, or an alien invasion. The absolutely chilling end was much more satisfying and very much more disturbing.
That’s what I like about Chris!
