I just got passed this link (direct to iTunes, free download.) It’s a ‘motion comic’ of Watchmen (“chapter 1.”) I’ve never heard of this, and I don’t know if there are going to be more, but it’s pretty neat once you get used to the style. (Rorschach’s mask is particularly nice.)

Anybody familiar with this?

Thanks for sharing the link and it sounded like an interesting idea,  but unfortunatly it is a US only item.

So is not availible in the UK itunes store.

Argh. Regional restrictions are so stupid in this day and age.

Thanks for the link, I just watched it. I wasn’t paying a lot of attention, but I think I may have seen a couple of mentions about this in some blogs. Some people, inevitably, will complain. But I’m glad they made it, because I can show it to my wife who doesn’t like to read, but does like cartoons. It’s not a perfect solution. We don’t get to see all the text that was in the back of each issue/chapter, but at least she can get a feel for what I’ve been raving about all these years.

Alan Moore wants nothing to do with it. The studios keep on sending him bumpf about the comics of his they turn into films – like V for vendetta. He said: “Its like somebody kidnapping your kids and using them for prostitution. Then every year or so sending you pictures and videos of they are doing with themselves now.”

As a fan I know where he’s coming from. Over the last few years I’ve become convinced that there is a Hollywood run conspiracy to butcher every book I’ve ever loved.

Absolutely. And because of that, I can’t believe how many people get excited about the books they hold dear to them being turned into films.

It must say something about the triumph of optimism over experience…

The thing is people to seem to actually like them or at least make excuses for them, which makes me wonder what they must have liked in the books in the first place. Saying that I am fearcely protective over the stuff I like.

Well, for what it’s worth: The motion comic seems to have the go-ahead. iTunes is selling a season pass now (and the freebie is now available for USD1.99.)

Well, Akira worked on screen.  But then again as a PKD fan I must say there was an abysmal stretch of horrible adaptations between Blade Runner and A Scanner Darkly.

At least two of them came out well.
